NLL Star and Box Lacrosse Champion Logan Schuss Named Box Lacrosse Director and Offensive Coordinator
NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. - April 18th, 2023
Fusion West is proud to announce that Vancouver Warriors and Ladner Pioneers Logan Schuss will be the Box Lacrosse Director and Offensive Coordinator for the boys this summer season in preparation for the USBOXLA Nationals this August - tryouts begin May 6th.
“Fusion is very excited to bring Logan Schuss on to the staff.,” Crowley said. “He’s played at the highest level in both box and field lacrosse. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Logan for many years now and have always appreciated how great of a person and teammate he is. His selfless attitude and passion for the game will make him a great addition to our coaching staff.”
Schuss is a 9-year NLL veteran and was the #1 overall pick in the 2013 NLL Entry Draft. He has played for the Minnesota Swarm and the Vancouver Stealth/Warriors. In his professional career, Schuss has recorded over 500 points. Schuss has also been a member of the WLA’s Sr. A New Westminster Salmonbellies and the WCSLA’s Sr. B Ladner Pioneers, whom he won the President’s Cup with in 2022.
When Schuss was at The Ohio State University from 2010-2013, he tallied 237 points, which is the 2nd-most in school history. While he was there, Schuss earned a degree in physical education. For nearly two decades, Schuss has wanted to help the next generation of lacrosse players improve their skills.
“I’ve always had a passion for working with kids and working on developing their skills,” Schuss said. “Even when I was about 15 or 16, I was coaching the Tykes and Novices of Delta lacrosse, and I really enjoyed it.”
A Ladner native, Schuss has been at the forefront of trying to grow the game in British Columbia and the West Coast. Schuss and Fusion West are looking to reshape the landscape of Canada’s national teams by having a greater representation of West Coast players.
Schuss plans to train Fusion athletes to have the skills and mindset that professional players have. He believes that teaching the kids these valuable tools and lessons at a younger age will allow them to hone their skills.
“If we can get Bantam and Midget level players running an offensive system like we run in the NLL, they’ll be able to take those skills back to their local club team and share what they learned at Fusion.”
“Kids have a lot of raw skill. They learn by watching YouTube or games and try different things, but I think knowing when to use those skills in games is very important. Many kids love to do stunt goals or shovel passes, but there’s not always the proper execution at game time. I think building the proper knowledge of things like how to set a proper pick and roll or how to execute a proper backhand pass to be more a diversion play rather than just for the flashiness is important.”
Schuss will also be helping out with field practices over the summer.
